Celebrates Fourth Birthday with Party

Paul Fitz-Gibbon (front row, first boy on the left) notes, "My last day in Miami, Florida, Spring 1952, I met Donna Schmeller (second person seated to my right, first girl} on the campus of the University of Miami, she mentioned that she recently graduated from high school in Lakewood, Ohio.

We had a wonderful time that evening, whereupon I returned to New York and lost contact; many years later I could no longer remember her name until this 66 year old photo arrived from my sister, Jane McKenna, October 2003; about 51 years after our last meeting.

We never realized in 1952 that we went to preschool together, as our paths had separated until that serendipitous day in Miami.

Other children that I remember; were: Sally Sue Butler (her mother ran the preschool), and, those I knew later and never realized that we had been classmates in preschool were: Barbara Uebel, Janet Reed, Donald Strong, and Donna Marr Mack.

I started kindergarten, January 1938 (midyear), at 4 years-old, before most everyone else in the photo. For the most part we all went to different schools, until high school, where I was a grade ahead of most of the others."

The caption under the picture reads: "Barbara Uebel. extreme left, 1440 Lakeland Avenue, celebrated her fourth birthday with a party last week. Her guests were, around the table, Claire Canny, Sally Sue Butler, Fannie Gay Atkins, Bobby Giles, Jimmie Beck, Janet Reed, Johnny McKay, Donald Strong, Patsy Gavin, Donna Marr Mack, Barry Fry, Robert Galbraith, Sally Jean Herman, Winnie Gilmore, Bobby Almquist, Gordon Perry, Donna Schmeller, Dannie Long, Paul Fitzgibbons (sic)."
